New American safety requirements in the 1970s obliged European producers to redesign their more sporty models. The De Tomaso Pantera was one example of Ghia redesigning a prototype to meet the new requirements. The “7X” was de-signed by Tom Tjaarda who also conceived the distinctive paintwork with a chestnut finish. The car was a unique model and was bought by the President of Ford.
