Count Giovanni Lurani Cernuschi (1905-1995) was a journalist and racing driver, one of the most prominent personalities in the Italian automotive world in the 1930s.

In 1934 Lurani bought a Lancia Astura, a third series short chassis, which was delivered without bodywork, equipped with only four baquet seats. In this configuration, the pilott brought it to the Lecco-Maggio hillclimb race on 30 September 1934, winning the touring class over 1500cc. The car was also used for Lurani's trips, such as at the Klausen race or at the 24 Hours of Pescara.

In the winter of 1935 the chassis was bodied by Stabilimenti Farina and once completed, it took part in a series of concourses d'elegance: Viareggio on March 4th (first prize and special prize), Montecarlo on March 30th (first prize), Cannes on 2nd April (grand prix and Lalique cup), Villa d'Este (first prize).

After the victorious season of competitions, Lurani volunteers for the war in East Africa and the car was sold to Gildo Strazza.
