Chassis number: 915012
Engine no: 923808
In 1939 Alfa Romeo launched the new 6C 2500, entrusting Enzo Ferrari, at the time head of Alfa Corse, to create a racing version out of it. The chassis was shortened and the engine tuned with the adoption of three carburetors. The model was called Tipo 256, following the Ferrari tradition of using displacement and number of cylinders. Seven cars were assembled in Modena with Touring racing bodywork but the success convinced some customers to ask for a street version.
Thus production continues in Modena and in 1939 a total of about 15 more road cars were completed, mainly with Touring bodywork. Chassis 915012 is the first Tipo 256 chassis born without a racing body, and can be considered the first ever road car built in Modena by Enzo Ferrari.
