Chassis number: 102
Engine no: 99
The first model built by Lancia is the Type 51, more commonly known as 12 HP, but which today is known as "Alfa", the name given to it years later, when all models (even past ones) were marked with Greek letters. It is a car with a 4-cylinder engine of 2543cc, which produces 28hp at 1800 rpm, a remarkable regime for the period. Also the low frame and the cardanic trasmission were at the forefront for the times, and the car, with a four-speed gearbox, could reach 100kph. Grand and majestic, the "Double Phaeton" body is the work of american coachbuilder Miller Bros. of Amesbury, Massachusetts. The car arrived in America in fact as a bare chassis.
108 units of model 12 HP were constructed, in a series that also includes the next 18 HP (the 6-cylinder "Dialfa") with frame numbers between 1 and 136. This exemplar has the frame n.102 and the engine n.99. Built in America, remained the property of judge Dave Tunik for over 50 years. Two other known examples of Lancia Alfa are exhibited at the Museum of Turin: one of them ran in Savannah in 1909, the other is a sedan.
